Qualcomm intends to offer 5G support in mid-range smartphones
Qualcomm also came to IFA 2019, which is currently taking place in Berlin. The American chipmaker did not bring any new products with him and limited himself to announcing his plans to transfer processors to support 5G ‑ networks.
At the moment, only flagship platforms are endowed with the privilege of having a 5G modem. So, Snapdragon 855 and Snapdragon 855 Plus allow you to work in 5G ‑ networks when you install a separate communication module Snapdragon X50. In the case of the Snapdragon 865, the company can go on to build the Snapdragon X55 5G modem into the single-chip system.
Now, the chip maker intends to transfer to rails 5G and mid-level platforms. In particular, we are talking about the fact that the chipsets 600 and 700 series Snapdragon will receive support for fifth-generation networks.
Interestingly, this is not a distant prospect, but a future that will come soon. So, the chip maker promises that in the 700 series a chip with 5G support will appear before the end of this year. 5G modems will get to single-chip systems from the 600 series in the second half of next year.
Companies like Oppo, Vivo, Redmi, Nokia, Realme, LG and Motorola intend to install Qualcomm's new mid-tier 5G platforms in their future smartphones.
