Introduced HarmonyOS (HongmengOS) Operating System
Today, China launched Huawei Developers Conference 2019, in which the company decided to talk about new software products.
Reason for pride
It was decided to start the forum with the fact that the head of the mobile division boasted Huawei's achievements: the company controls 35% of the Chinese market, its share in the world is 17.6%, the army of users is more than 500 million people, in the first quarter PC shipments grew by 300% and wearable Electronics – 200%.
And despite everything, the company is confident that it will be able to ship at least 260 million pipes to the market this year. And globally, the number one task is to create your own ecosystem and the HarmonyOS operating system will help in this. As predicted, in China the firmware will be known as Hongmeng.
HarmonyOS (HongmengOS) – Surpasses Android
OS is positioned as a "new experience and a new environment." An ambitious statement – it is stronger than Android and more future-oriented.
Hongmeng (Harmony) began to create two years ago and tomorrow will premiere a smart TV, which will be its first carrier. The company plans to release a second version of the proprietary operating system next year, and a third iteration in 2021. Thus, Huawei will follow the example of Google annually release an update and wants to expand the number of devices with it on board.
For which HarmonyOS devices (HongmengOS)
Hongmeng (Harmony) will find its application in wearable electronics, computers, tablets, other smart gadgets and systems. Can it be used on smartphones? The head of Huawei’s mobile division replied, “Of course.” But still, Android remains a priority in mobile devices for the company. Only "if Android is unavailable, Huawei will switch to Hongmeng." And for migration it will take only 1-2 days.
It is declared that Hongmeng (Harmony) offers a higher level of performance and security, it is multifunctional and looks more promising than Android. Everyone can get a new firmware, thanks to the open source code.
It is compatible with Unix, Linux and Android, so developers can easily produce software compatible with Hongmeng (Harmony). And all thanks to the Ark compiler. But all this will become possible only in the future.
An important feature of the OS is the microkernel. So, in its code there are 20 million lines, while Android has 100 million lines. Huawei considers Google software more cumbersome and the number of lines is excessive.
The company stands for minimalism, lightness and optimization. She states that for the flexible operation of the OS, a microkernel is enough, which is helped by modules for each specific operation.
To increase the level of responsiveness, a system of deterministic delays has been implemented, which is designed to prioritize tasks. As a result, delays in work are minimal.
At the moment, these are just the first details about Hongmeng (Harmony). As part of the conference, we are waiting for more information about it and the devices to which it will come.
A limited batch of Huawei Mate X will arrive on the market in September
